Syrian Skaters

The Syrian Skaters team is a pioneering initiative dedicated to helping children and youth heal from war trauma through the transformative power of skateboarding. What began with a single board and a vision to establish skateboarding as a nationally recognized sport has grown into the first team in the country’s history to be officially registered with the Ministry of Sports and Youth. Composed of passionate boys and girls, the program provides accessible classes in public gathering spaces, offering a new outlet for expression and a sense of belonging in a context where many things can feel out of control.

At its heart, the initiative teaches the vital lesson of resilience: the understanding that one can always stand up after falling down and begin again even stronger. By fostering this mindset, the project helps participants build confidence and long-term strength through consistent effort. Over the next five years, the team aspires to lead nationwide development efforts and build a network of skateparks, creating a permanent foundation for self-belief and a thriving community for the next generation.
