Creating Safe Spaces in Lahore
Salad Days of Skateboarding, a 100% volunteer-operated US nonprofit, works in close partnership with local leaders and Skateistan to support and elevate the skateboarding community in Lahore through Skate Pakistan. Acting as a fiscal sponsor, the initiative provides safe public infrastructure—including a concrete skatepark in the historic Bagh-e-Jinnah park—and hosts free weekly, gender-inclusive sessions at multiple locations. Their holistic approach extends beyond the board to include creative workshops in arts and media, educational outreach for out-of-school children, and a specific emphasis on female empowerment. By paying local coaches and providing equitable access to equipment, the partnership focuses on building a sustainable skateboarding economy and a strong sense of belonging.
In the next five years, Salad Days aims to provide sustained support for local partners and expand into new regions, helping more communities gain the infrastructure they need to thrive. Their ultimate goal is for every participant to discover the unique joy of the skatepark and find a community where they can develop new skills and interests.
