Third Semester at Skateistan Begins
Skateistan has just begun its third semester, and classes this week are in full force, despite the summer heat of Kabul and the beginning of Ramadan (a 30 day Muslim holiday, with fasting during daylight hours). The kids are very excited to be back on skateboards and haven't seemed to forget any of their tricks during the two-week semester break that just passed.
To start off the classroom lessons in the new semester, students will be working on theatre plays, as well as discussing the relevance of the Millennium Development Goals to Afghanistan.
Besides teaching classes, staff and volunteers are also busy compiling the student work from last semester, including video footage, photos, writing and paintings. These will be displayed as a short film and magazine to students, parents and community members in a Semester End Celebration to take place next week.
