From Strength to Strength in Phnom Penh
The Skateistan Cambodia project has been up and running since March of this year. They opened the skate facility at PSE (Pour un Sourire d'Enfant) NGO and weekly sessions quickly got underway. In June, Phnom Penh's new crop of skaters, along with the original team of volunteers, held events to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day; a first for Cambodia. Since then they've hosted Thai pro skater, Pit Potarach, and organised the first public demo for Skateistan Cambodia kids, and in the rain no less!
In the last two months, Skateistan Cambodia has progressed in leaps and bounds. Thanks to new offices, a guesthouse and scooters for our growing team in-country, the program has taken on a more structured and sustainable form. And with these developments comes a massive increase in time spent skating with vulnerable and marginalised Phnom Penh youth. Sessions are currently running an incredible seven days a week, both at PSE and as part of a new collaboration with the NGO Friends International.
The Skateistan Cambodia website, with an up-to-date blog and picture galleries, can now be accessed via the homepage of Skateistan's main website. Just click the Cambodian flag in the top left-hand corner (says KH on scroll-over). They also have a Facebook page here and a Twitter account here, so you can always be up to date with news from Benji, Frauke, Steve, Rick and local youth who all make up the Skateistan Cambodia team.
