Skateistan was awarded a donation of 400,000 DKK (approximately 64,300 USD) in Denmark yesterday by the Roskilde Festival Charity Society. Every year, the Society puts on the Roskilde Festival, which is the largest culture and music festival in Northern Europe. All the profits from the festival are then donated to humanitarian and cultural projects, and Skateistan was chosen as the charity of choice this year.

With an outdoor skatepark in the works and more students enrolled every week, this generous donation will certainly help Skateistan grow. The donation was appropriately awarded yesterday in the Roskilde Skate area, where professional skateboarders perform throughout the festival.

Trine Henningsen, boardmember of the Roskilde Society, says "Skateistan is a project that gives Afghan children courage, self-confidence and good experiences while skateboarding in a country that bears the distinct imprint of more than 30 years of unrest. The project combines a cultural foundation with humanitarian work. Denmark has chosen to take part in the military conflict in the country, and therefore it is natural that we help where we can with a reconstruction that can give young people a bearable life and a belief in a future with new opportunities."
