Out Now: Student Mag on Arts & Skateboarding
To showcase the work done in UNAMA-funded creative arts workshops at Skateistan, our students put together Pul Magazine, which includes words and artwork done by over 330 Skateistan students. The full PDF is available now. "Pul" means "bridge" in Dari, and the name was chosen because the publication will be printed and distributed to youth throughout Afghanistan, serving as a bridge between the ideas of kids in Kabul and of youth in other provinces.
The 30-page magazine was put together in a special magazine class, taught by local and international staff. There will be versions printed in three different languages: English, Dari and Pashto. Content in the magazine includes drawings, poems, skateboarding, paintings, photos and journalism – emphasizing creative arts made both the Skateistan workshops and the magazine accessible and interesting for all young people, whether literate or illiterate. Through these mediums the students share a bit of their lives in Kabul with other Afghan youth, and send a message of hope for the future.
If you like Pul Magazine we encourage you to share this PDF with others. One of the main goals of Skateistan is to give our students new platforms for self-expression, and the chance to show the world alternate perspectives to the standard image of Afghanistan abroad.
