First Aid Workshop for Staff and Volunteers

With a volunteer and staff list that is constantly growing, Skateistan thought it would be a good time to hold a basic first aid training course for everyone who instructs during the skate sessions.

International instructors Jake Simkin (former paramedic in Australia) and Patrick Ritchey opened the workshop by discussing how to reduce the risk of injury in the skatepark, especially for the most common injuries. We then went through the procedure for dealing with minor and serious injuries, and finished by showing treatment for basic sprains and cuts. There were 18 people attending, and all have signed up to participate in a CPR certificate training course in coming weeks.
