Exciting Happenings for Skateistan's US Entity

Skateistan usually reserves this blog for things that are going on in Afghanistan, but there are a few exciting developments lately for the US entity that are important to share. The first bit of news is that Skateistan’s US entity is currently holding an online auction with nearly 70 customized skateboard decks available on eBay. These decks were displayed at the first major Skateistan US fundraising event, which took place in New York’s Red Bull Soho Space last weekend.

The skateboards were created by or used as canvasses by more than 50 individuals, including various up-and-coming New York artists, the installation artist Olafur Eliasson, street artist Cake, designers and, of course, skateboarders. One hundred percent of the final bids will go directly towards Skateistan. Boards can be shipped internationally, and auction ends Tuesday Aug. 31st.

Secondly, Skateistan wants to welcome the California-based, skateboard industry legend Bryan Ridgeway to the team! Ridge is acting as a consultant to Skateistan’s team in Kabul, sharing some of his valuable knowledge on marketing and the skate industry. He's worked in the past as Tony Hawk’s manager and a Transworld Skateboarding magazine writer. He now owns his own consulting firm, Start to Finish Consulting. Ridge is currently being honoured in two museum exhibits: one on African American skateboard culture in the California African American Museum, and another exhibit on 80s skate ‘zines at the Torrance Art Museum.

And lastly, Skateistan US is now eligible to receive tax deductable donations! This means whenever US citizens make a donation through PayPal or to the bank account Skateistan's non-profit corporation in the USA they can claim it on their taxes. For more information check out the donations page.
