Skateistan is working towards self-sustainability so that the organization is as self-reliant as possible in the long-term, instead of depending on donor funding. Skateistan has been selling its merchandise internationally since 2007, beginning with tee-shirts and expanding into other products. As part of Skateistan’s sustainable business model, the NGO has secured contracts with sports companies to release co-branded equipment with the Skateistan logo worldwide in 2011. Skateistan will then earn a percentage of the sale price in shops, typically 5-10%. Companies that the NGO is working with are all market leaders, and products are being designed together with Skateistan students in classes.
