Skateistan celebrates the IASC's international Go Skateboarding Day for the third time. Over 200 young people took to the streets of Kabul before heading back to the skatepark for a contest to the sounds of traditional Afghan music.
Skateistan students, staff and parents recognized student excellence through an award ceremony and skateboard demos. There was also a video and a slide-show of environmental projects undertaken by all students in Semester 2.
The day Skateistan celebrated the end of its first semester. On this occasion, Skateistan students showed what they have achieved on the skate floor and in the classrooms.

A 2010 fieldtrip with some students to the old Russian pool on Bibimaru Hill, Kabul. The pool was never filled with water and was used in the past for executions. Skating pools began in California in the 70s. Skateistan decided to try it out in one of the city's few swimming pools.
On June 21, 2009, Skateistan organized the first “Go Skateboarding Day” (GSD) in Kabul. This was the first public sports event in Afghanistan in which girls and boys, as well as foreigners, participated.
From 2008 to 2009, Skateistan visited the children at Kufa Orphanage to teach skateboarding. In 2009, staff also distributed vitamins to the children, to help prevent malnutrition and Leishmaniasis scars from parasitic infection.
